Ocean Village Gibraltar


Overview

Standing proud at the edge of the sea and overlooking the Bay of Gibraltar, a prestigious marina at its feet, Ocean Village is one of Gibraltar’s prime locations. The developers, Fair Homes Ltd., completed the first of the towers, Royal Ocean Plaza, in 2003. With its 16 storeys of apartments, including penthouse apartments in this superb setting, this became the fastest selling residential development in Gibraltar’s history. Grand and Majestic Ocean Plazas achieved a similar success in 2010. The Bayside Boys’ Comprehensive school is only 2 minutes walk across the road from Ocean Village and Westside Girls’ Secondary School only a 10-minute walk away and 2 minutes by car.

Ocean Village a mere 2 minutes walk from the main bus stops at Market Place where buses to other districts and towards the Spain/Gibraltar border and the airport can be caught. This accessibility to bus routes and main roads means that the Gibraltar College and the University of Gibraltar are also very easy to reach.

Local facilities

Ocean Village is in the perfect location to be easily able to access centres of commerce and financial, and for professionals is the residential area of choice. It is only a short walk from vibrant city centre, with its broad mix of shops, restaurant-lined squares, its health centre, art galleries and its historical buildings which include the Governor’s Palace at the southern end of Main Street. Only 5 minutes in a car will have a resident of Ocean Village shopping at either one of the two main supermarkets in Gibraltar, while the popular sandy beaches to the east are only 10-minutes’ drive away.

Gibraltar is an enthusiastic home to many sports with facilities at the Victoria Sports Centre a simple two minutes’ walk from Ocean Village. There are also with local sports venues throughout the Rock, from district football clubs, rugby clubs, tennis courts at Sandpits, fishing associations, gymnastic and dance clubs to name but a few.

For those who enjoy the outdoors and want to make the most of the long days of sunshine in Gibraltar, the open spaces of Europa Point are a 15-minute drive away. There are also walks up into the Rock or the historic sites for those who enjoy more of a challenge, and others might wish to test their nerve on the new Windsor Bridge in the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Access to the cable car for easier access to the top of the Rock is a 10-minute drive or bus ride away, for example.

Keen sailors or those wanting to learn will find that they could not wish for a better location than an apartment at Ocean Village and can make the most of the Marina. Casual sailors can charter a yacht, take sailing lessons or go dolphin and whale spotting in the Bay. Another popular location for local sports enthusiasts are the rowing clubs, just 5 minutes drive away.

Within 15 minutes walking distance of Ocean Village is the King’s Bastion Leisure Centre, which boasts an ice rink, bowling alley, gymnasium and arcade as well as restaurant, bars and the Leisure Cinema.

Also within a 5-minute drive are the John Mackintosh Hall Theatre and the Ince’s Hall Theatre, two popular venues for the thriving performing arts scene in Gibraltar, while art-lovers only need to walk to the nearby Casemates to enjoy exhibitions in the Fine Art Gallery.

While those who enjoy fine dining and night life could not want for a better venue than Ocean Village, it is only a 10 minute drive to the popular Queensway Quay Marina with its popular restaurant and wine bars, or to Catalan Bay, for a quieter dining experience in a historic village setting and at some superb seafood restaurants. And for those wishing to relax and enjoy a slower pace, Commonwealth Park provides a city centre sanctuary and is just a 15-minute walk to the south, while the beautiful Alameda Botanic Gardens provide a green and fragrant sanctuary and is only a 10-minute drive away.

Travel

Ocean Village is a 5-minute drive from Gibraltar International Airport for flights to various cities in UK including London, Manchester, Liverpool and Bristol. There are also direct flights to Morocco. The frontier with Spain and its open roads to the rest of Europe lie just beyond the airport.

The bus services are regular and include a night bus service for those wishing to linger further afield and the Gibraltar Taxi Association also runs a 24-hour service.
