Eyes turn towards Gibraltar’s Eastside

30 Jan 18

Gibraltar’s Eastside is just a short drive from the bustling city centre and the business hubs of the Westside, yet it differs: it is quieter, the pace of the day slightly slower. It is home to three of Gibraltar’s beaches, boasts a stretch of sand slopes renowned for its environmental importance, and is the location of Gibraltar’s old fishing village of Catalan Bay. Despite inevitable modernization, Catalan Bay still enjoys the quieter pace of village life, with its fishing boats settled on the sand, the tiny chapel and a selection of bars and restaurants. Its landmark hotel, the Caleta Hotel, sits perched on a promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean and on its southern side lies the golden Sandy Bay. Facing the sunrise, the days benefit from long hours of early sunshine and stretch out towards cooler, more refreshing evenings.

Entering the Eastside from the town centre or Westside there runs Devil’s Tower Road, home to numerous businesses and the location of up-and-coming development projects as the transformation of Gibraltar’s Eastside commences. Along with a Holiday Inn Hotel, Clemence Suites is one of the major projects under construction.

Clemence Suites is set to complete in 2018 and combines practicality with luxury living in what is an ideal location: just 10 minutes’ walk from Gibraltar International Airport and the frontier with Spain, 15 minutes’ walk from the city centre and an easy 5 minutes’ walk from the open expanse of Eastern Beach.

Architects, Arc Designs, have created a development of 76 apartments along with ground floor retail units, a gymnasium for residents and a reception area. Mindful of parking requirements, they have included 77 car parking spaces in a secure covered garage, including two bays for disabled drivers and two bays have provision for electrical charging points. Motorcycle parking areas will be available on each parking level and bicycle racks are being included on the parking podium and also externally.

The area will be landscaped, and the development, which boasts high quality finishes throughout, will also achieve an “A” rating in terms of both energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

This collection of deluxe apartments and penthouses will include features such as oak engineered wood flooring, fitted wardrobes in all the bedrooms, panoramic balconies with glass balustrades, air conditioning, under floor heating and fully-fitted kitchens. Video door entry systems, communal area CCTV, secure post boxes and smoke and heat detectors in each apartment will add to the sense of high-end city living.

Clemence Suites is an effective entry-point into what is set to become a sought-after area in terms of property investment. Proposed developments on the Eastside include a luxury marina project, further residential schemes and restaurant and leisure areas. Given the anticipated radical transformation planned for Gibraltar’s Eastside, Clemence Suites represents a good value investment.
